There were not too many different apple tree varieties in the past that you could buy. But the things are not same now because of genetic engineers creative skills. Now if you go to your local nursery to buy an apple tree, you will have wide variety of apple trees to choose from. This article tells five different apple tree varieties from which you can choose as your first apple tree.
· Fuji apple: It was first introduced in Japan around 1962. Fuji apple has yellow-green skin with red streaks down the side. It is a
very delicious, stiff and crispy apple variety. Fuji apple ripe in September and you can pick them as soon as it is ripe but for more intense and delicious flavor you may not harvest it until October or November. This apple variety grows in abundance and it grows very early too and not only this, they are great for pollinating other apples also. · Gala apple: It was introduced in New Zealand. Their skin is mostly yellow but with a slight hint of red and they are not too big in size. It is one of the most juicy apple varieties and is firm, crunchy and great to smell. They can be easily classified as best tasting apple when used fresh. Just like Fuji apple they grow in abundance and grow too early. Their ripe time is different from Fuji apple and that is late July. But for cooking purposes Fuji apple are much better than Gala apple. They can tolerate any type of soil thus easily manageable.
· Brae Burn apples: This apple variety looks beautiful because of its varying colors. They come in gold with red streaks to almost completely red. They were first introduced in late 1940’s and are popular since then. They found their origin in New Zealand just like Fuji but now they are most popular and top-seller in Germany. The insides are white, crisp, aromatic, firm, and juicy. They are not completely sweet and taste slightly tartar. They come in both medium and large sizes. They were introduced to the United States around 1980 and they became so popular there. The best thing is that they don’t go brown too quickly after being cut. Their ripe time is mid October.
· Red Delicious apple: The most tall and red colored apple variety. They are very crisp, sweet and juicy from inside. They make a great salad and are popular world wide. The most distinctive thing about this apple is its heart shape. Their ripe time is mid to late September and like most apple varieties they are best when fresh. They were first introduced in 1874 in Peru, Iowa.
· Golden delicious apple: They are very juicy apple variety and have great taste. The best thing about this apple is that they keep their taste and shape even after being cooked. From outside they are thin and soft but inner is firm, white and crisp. They range in size from medium to large and they are shaped much like the red delicious apple. They are enjoyed by many worldwide despite of the fact that they bruise very easily. Their ripe time is late September and if you want them to last long time, they should be handled with care.
